Gone Dark by Amanda Panitch is a thrilling story about a girl named Zara, who grew up in a survivalist compound with her father but escaped with her mother. When a nationwide power outage strikes, it creates  danger and chaos. Zara must rely on the skills her father taught her to survive. She faces many frightening challenges throughout the story. The book is full of action and keeps readers wanting to know what happens next. The book was written by Amanda Panitch, an American author who writes for teens and young adults. She grew up telling stories to her family, which inspired her writing. She lives in New York City and is known for creating thrilling stories with relatable characters. The book makes readers think about how skills and quick thinking can make a difference in life or death situations.

At the beginning of the book, Zara is living a normal life after leaving her father’s survivalist compound years ago. One day, a nationwide power outage shuts down the country, causing chaos everywhere. As things become more difficult, Zara begins to realize that the survival skills she learned from her father might be the only way to stay alive. She goes on a tough journey where she faces danger and memories from her past. The main conflict begins when the power goes out, throwing everything to chaos and forcing Zara to deal with a world she isn’t ready for. As the story goes on, things get harder as she tries to survive while thinking about her father and the life she escaped. She decides her father’s compound is the best to stay alive. By the end, Zara has to deal with real danger and her own personal struggles which pushes her to understand herself. In the beginning of the book, Zara seems like a normal teenager but her past makes her feel different and misunderstood. As the story goes on she becomes stronger and confident in her survival skills. By the end, Zara grows both emotionally and mentally showing a better understanding of who she is.

One thing I really liked about the book is how realistic and tense everything felt after the power went out. It makes you realize how unprepared most people would be in an emergency like that. I also liked how Zara’s past helped her, because the survival skills she learned actually kept her safe and made a difference in how she handled the situation. It also shows how what someone has learned in the past can help them make better choices in future situations.  I would recommend this book to readers who like survival and realistic stories. It’s especially good for people who enjoy suspense and characters who show growth throughout the story. Overall, Gone Dark is an exciting and meaningful story that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. It makes readers think about how someone might handle a situation like this and what is important when a crisis happens.
