At this school we do not have uniforms, everybody at this school has the freedom to wear what they want. Having uniforms at schools is often debated, some may say that uniforms are a good thing in schools others think uniforms aren't a good thing and try to discredit the idea. Personally, I think implementing uniforms is a positive step for schools. Uniforms make everyone equal and reduce distractions. Although school uniforms were introduced many years ago their relevance still remains high today. Beyond just clothing, the debate about uniforms addresses issues on the school community and equality. Implementing uniforms can make students feel equal and minimize distractions making a good step in the school community.
One of the main reasons why I think schools should implement uniforms is so students can feel equal to one another. At most schools there are clothes standards, a trend, made by other students. Many students feel pressure to keep up with the aesthetic that is considered popular. Additionally, not every student can afford the clothes that everyone wears. They are popular for a month and then go away and not every student can afford to switch their wardrobe every month because a new clothing trend came out. The students that can't afford new trendy clothes every month may feel left out or looked down upon by the people that can. This shouldn't be the case at schools which are supposed to be a safe space for students but in reality they aren't. Implementing uniforms is a step forward to making schools a safe space for students and make every student feel equal to each other.
My other reason why schools should implement uniforms is to minimize distractions. Schools already deal with students being late to class in the morning and this may be because the students have to deal with choosing an outfit in the morning to look cute. Students waste their time in the morning trying to figure out what outfit they want to wear in the morning; they end up forgetting time and being late to school. Being late once in a blue moon is fine but on a daily basis is not. Students miss out on most of the lesson so when the test comes they don't know the material so they fail. Implementing uniforms in schools can significantly decrease lateness in schools because students won't have a choice of what they get to wear to school so they won't be late in the mornings. Implementing uniforms in schools can minimize distractions for students in the morning which is a positive thing for not only teachers and the school but for students too.
Therefore, implementing uniforms is a positive and pragmatic step for schools. Uniforms make a positive impact on lessening distractions for students. Additionally, uniforms make everyone at school feel equal to one another without feeling less than or looked down upon. People may argue that uniforms are outdated but their relevance is still high today in schools. The debate on uniforms are not only just based on clothing, they help address issues on the school community and equality. Implementing uniforms make students feel more equal to one another and lessen the distractions clothes can have on students in schools. Uniforms are making a positive step in the school community.
