The best decade of history is the 1980s. The 80s was the best time period of all, as it was the last time when life was vibrant and colorful. The most impactful music artists were all from the 80s, such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Queen, George Michael/Wham, Cyndi Lauper, and so many more. Whenever I think of the convergence between the music and the eccentric fashion, I realize how creative and original the 80s really were. Now in the 2020s, I am looking back and seeing how much we have lost our spark. Fashion has changed from funky outfits to plain-colored two piece alo sets that almost half of the Upper east side is wearing. Because of my fascination with the 80s, I would for sure pick that as the time period I would travel back in time to.
When I would talk to my family about how their childhood was, that question would always put a smile on their faces because of how much joy they had back then. My mother would always tell me how much fun the 80s were, as she spent the majority of her childhood in the mid 80s-early 90s. She would always go out with her friends, listen to the most upbeat music ever, and would never just spend time at home on her phone the entire day. That is currently me, as my phone or any other electronic device I currently use is constantly draining my productiveness. For my mother to reconnect with her childhood we always play 80s music on the TV and tune in on it, bringing back all the memories. Nowadays, artists have just become lazy and release the same type of songs every time with no deep meaning behind them. Sure, If I would have gone back to the 80s I’d probably lose my mind over not having my phone, but all the other activities that I can do such as rollerskating, going to arcades, listening to music on a record player, playing games with my friends, and so much more that was fraught with fun.
The music back in the 80s provided a futuristic concept. It gave listeners an opportunity to think that the generation of music would evolve for the better, but that turned out to be wrong. The upbeat songs and deep lyrics were what got people to get up in the morning and take life as an adventure. Back then, people were given so much freedom to do whatever they wished for, without anyone judging them. The influence of MTV was what brought music alive and made visual performances be seen and fascinated by the audience. It provided many different singers to come up with their own style of music, which was then influenced later on by newer generations which really shows how song writers of that decade were the people who began everything. It was never about how artists now are “bad”, they just cannot make music as good as it was before.
The 1980’s was the last good decade. It showed how distinct people were from each other, with both styles and their interests. People back then have always been able to come up with their own ideas on how to influence others, rather than being a conformist. Every story that I have heard that involved the 80s has always had the person fantasizing about how good they had it. It had a very influential technology movement, which was the beginning of using electronics for communication. While the majority of the most famous song artists of that generation have stopped making music, they have caused a huge impact on pop culture and are still helping other artists with inspiration to this day. In the end, the 1980s will always be an era that is unforgettable by many.
