She stood by the lockers,
Eyes on the floor,
Suddenly,
I feel like I've been here before.
Sharp like a sting
Words thrown around like they mean nothing.
I saw her shrink,
Losing confidence in herself.

Attempting to disappear,
I know how it feels to be her–
Something in me urged to help–
To stand up before walking away that day.
“Leave her alone.” I said,
Not loud,
Only enough to turn a small crowd.
The laughs faded,
The moment froze,
Rough, like I had just slammed a door closed.
